Aka…why is it so cold in Chicago?!
Today, I witnessed all four of these weather elements happening at the same time: snow, rain, thunder and lightning. Or, as I affectionally like to call it, thunder snow. This is not my first time experiencing the weather phenomenon; however, it is the first time I’ve seen it result in a virtual whiteout of downtown Chicago.
Enough with winter already…across the board. I’ve never seen so many negative-degree days in my 26 years on God’s green Earth. Well, at least I think it’s still green. I honestly don’t remember the last time I’ve seen grass. So sad.
And I already know what you’re thinking: “You decided to move to Chicago. You knew what you were getting yourself into.”
While I knew Chicago was known for its harsh winters before I moved here last July (oh, sweet summer memories of the sun beating down on my bare shoulders), this has been one of the worst winters on record in the Windy City and, I believe, is on track to be the third snowiest…OF ALL TIME! Yikes. What did I get myself into?
Not that things are any less snowy back in my home state Maryland, where the last round of snow dumped between 15 and 18 inches on the ground. That’s just rude.
Unfortunately for us all, Paxtuney Phil has predicted another six weeks of snow (as of Groundhog’s day…so now it’s only like four more weeks. Optimism, people!). But one can only hope that the next four weeks go by quickly…fingers crossed!!
